Klaus Arras

Klaus Arras

Germany

For food photographer Klaus Arras from Cologne nothing equals the dedicated production of food and food products. His extensive cookbook library already contains over 60 books that he photographed. The depiction of dishes by star chefs is especially close to his heart. For him it is not just about photography, but showing food without artificiality and giving the dishes a familiar feeling of culinary sensuality.
With ever increasing use of daylight in his productions, he creates the natural atmosphere that characterizes his photographs. His credo is that light creates mood. His sensitive use of props allows the prepared dishes to remain the main focus of his work.
This is also reflected in his daily work, where little stories are often hidden in the highly reduced productions. Perhaps it is merely a crumb, several spoons or cutlery that belong to the dish, a monogram on the napkin - the suggestion of a story always plays an important role. Arras believes it is the familiar, the everyday objects that we need to see anew and that seduce us again and again into a world of visualization of scents and flavors.
